What Makes You Happy?

By Debbie Bills

Do you ever have those days where you just don’t feel outgoing, enthusiastic and positive?  You’re just plain feeling low.  How do you break those moods, so you don’t sit around having a pity party, eating all day and feeling stressed out?

“Be thankful for what you have: You’ll end up having more.  If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”  By Oprah Winfrey

Simple things that I do when I’m feeling challenged is to remember:

Health: I am definitely blessed to have my health.  How many people would love to just be able to get up in the morning and have a wonderful day to look forward to without any pain?

Acceptance: I’m so thankful to those who obviously accept me for who I am.  Yes, I have those little things that can drive my loved ones up the wall.  I like to eat dinner at a certain time, which drives my hubby up the wall at times.  And oh, if you have a problem I try to fix it, my children call it preaching.

Positivity: Look for the good in everything and you will find it. Even if I’m feeling low at least I have a roof over my head and food to eat.  And unless the furnace goes out I have heat on a cool winter day.

Passion: Being passionately about something always leads to happiness.  I have passion when it comes to my family and my work.

Independence. It’s great to be free, but it’s also important to be independent.  Having been a single parent I know my strength, so occasionally on those low days I can rely on it.

New Places: They can be scary sometimes, but the excitement is part of the fun!  This use to be a fear of mine, but now I consciously go look for them.  I have learned to make it a challenge.

Excitement: I’ve had a fair amount of it in my life and I love it!   It helps me think on my feet and it certainly can get the blood running.  I love knowing I can hold up when the unexpected happens.

Strength: I have a lot of internal strength that I need to be thankful for.  Having survived the good, bad and ugly it is great to know that life is still fun and I have the ability to survivor.

Safety: More often than not, I feel very safe and I’m extremely lucky to have that privilege. My alarm system for the house, really help with this one when I am home alone.

Now it is your turn to take the word HAPPINESS and make up your list of words that will help you on those low days.  Everybody has their low days, we just have to learn how to counter act them when they hit.

What is your list? H A P P I N E S S For some it could start with Hope!

      Hi Walter,

I know how you feel. When I spend time with my grandchildren, their is know greater pleasure. Children can may you forget about the stress and problems.
If we would all look at the world through a child’s eyes it would make life much happier. Your son is very lucky. They do grow up quickly and they just keep teaching us. It is beautiful.
Have a wonderful time with him for many years.

      Thank you for sharing.
