Choose Happiness; The Real Pathway!

Psychologists are always studying Happy… like it is a mystery.  Is It?

There really is one step to happiness and that is a decision.  You know the old story, “You can lead a horse to the water, but you can’t make him drink.”  This clearly explains happiness within.  It is there you just have to choose to be happy.

There are a few minor adjustments that one really needs to make.  If you are person that likes all the material things that are in this world; you are likely to run into a little bit of a problem.  Happiness within has nothing to do with material things.  You can however find a little comfort in material things.  Like a bed to sleep in.  Now that’s comfort, unless you have a bad mattress, then you have to look for the happiness, but it is still there.  The point is that material things definitely add comfort to your life, but not happiness.  The material things surely will make you feel good for a while, and then occasionally you’re going to want something else to make you feel good.

Money buys comfort. Now happiness brings you those warm fuzz feeling. Take the bad mattress as an example.  One has the bad mattress, now you can either complain about the mattress or feel bad wishing you had a better one.  The flip side of this is if by chance you are a happy person you are going to be happy just because you have a mattress to sleep on.   See how easy it is to be happy.   It is all in the attitude.  Is your cup half full or half empty?

Happiness is not a mystery to solve or a secret, it’s clearly attitude.  Happiness is the feelings created by the expression of your love coming out of you.  I love that old mattress because it does provide me a place to sleep. New one would obviously be nice, but I am just grateful I have a mattress.  There are a lot of people that don’t have a mattress.  That is an example of the right attitude.  When love is coming out of you, you are going choose to be happy.

If you express anger or fear that is just what you are going to feel.  Let us go back to the mattress.  You go to bed at night and you feel anger because the mattress is old and doesn’t feel all that great.  When you lay down on it, it is going to make you angrier and you probably are going to have to hit it few times and clearly you are not going to sleep will, because of the anger.

Which is going to work better loving that old mattress until you can buy a new one or getting angry every time you go to us it?

    The feeling of happiness, just like the feeling of love, really does come down to conscious choice. Sure, sometimes we feel happy (or in love) because of what’s happening external to us. We can feel thankful for these fleeting moments that are absolute gifts.

    Yet, we don’t always have these gifts handed to us and if you are like me, you want a more enduring, longer term and deeper sense of happiness. Sometimes we need to do “the work”. We need to make the decision to be happy. This is about mindset, defining what these feelings mean for us LONG TERM.

    Your article is timely for me, Debbie.
    I’ve been practicing “happiness” as my intention for today.
    Didn’t always have the external encouragement to feel happy today and in those moments, I decided to create happiness for myself.

    Good stuff.
    I think I’ll continue practicing this intention tomorrow.
