What Makes You Happy?

Do you ever have those days where you just don’t feel outgoing, enthusiastic and positive?  You’re just plain feeling low.  How do you break those moods, so you don’t sit around having a pity party, eating all day and feeling stressed out?

“Be thankful for what you have: You’ll end up having more.  If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”  By Oprah Winfrey

Simple things that I do when I’m feeling challenged is to remember:

Let’s face it you have to put aging in the right perspective or you can just plan lose your happiness within.  This is how I’m handling aging:

aging 1 How Im Happy Growing Young!

Choose to be Happy Now

I personally can never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, or my loving family for less gray hair (hair dye does wonders) or a flatter belly (Fuller shirts work great).  As I’ve aged, I’ve become happier, kinder to myself and less critical of myself.  I can honestly say; I have become my own friend.  I don’t hate myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement statue that I didn’t need, but looks so  lovely ( not so much)on  my patio.

“Happiness within is the ability to receive the pleasant without grasping and the unpleasant without condemning.”

No amount of technological development can lead to lasting happiness.  What is always missing is a corresponding inner development.  Cleaning up our mental environment so that real happiness within can be both uncovered and sustained.

Is Your Glass Half Full?

This is where learning to be an optimist comes in.  Learn to see the cup half full, not half empty. Optimists suffer less and recover quickly.  They are healthier and better liked and have stronger marriages and more fun.  Clearly there optimistic attitude, sometimes can be enough to make some gloomy.

This week has definitely been one of those weeks.  Sorry if you thought I was neglecting you, I really wasn’t.

My little 20 month old granddaughter was put in the hospital, because of this RSV going around.  Not really sure what this is, but she is one sick little girl.  Now today she is starting to run a fever again.  Wouldn’t be quite so bad, but she has  sisters 6 and 4 that obviously need taken care of while mom and dad are at the hospital.  At least I have been able to enjoy those two little ones even though they have been in school some of the time.

If 2009 was about focusing on what we lost, 2010 should be about focusing on what we have.

Many families are finding new rewards when they change their priorities.  Take for example this family that Gimundo featured.  They sold their 6,500 house for a smaller house and gave the profits on the big house to charity.

Get what you need: In 2008 it was all about the big houses, fancy cars and dining out.  In 2009 the bottom fell out of the economy.  Some of you may think that my elevator got stuck, but is the change in the economy really a bad thing? People are now taking a second look at what is really important.

Kids clearly aren’t being raise like we were.

Are they going to have happiness within as adults?  Yes, when I was a teenage; drugs were arriving on the scene, but it obviously was not from our parent’s medicine cabinets.  You could still go to the drug store and get cold remedies over the counter without them having to check to see when the last time you were in to buy some of these remedies.

When we were youngGod bless the parents who drugged us.”, so we could be well adjusted and able to choose happiness.
