What is it going to take to make you happy?
Right now I could use a new sofa and some new paint on my walls. Just a little honesty there, but what the heck I have a sofa to sit on and my walls do have paint on them, so I can live with that.
OK I’m done with the funny stuff let’s get down to business.
I would like you to stop and look around. What do you see? Your computer, since you are reading this and of course it is in your house, so I assume you have a roof over your head! You have arms and hopefully legs. Maybe you have family around, partner, kids or even a pet. Guess you are breathing, so that means there is air.
I would like you to go over to the nearest person in your house and give them a hug. If you are alone then wrap your arms around yourself and give yourself that big hug.
Having done all that: Now I want you to click on the button and watch this video.
What did you just see? A man that is very happy and glad to be alive! Right!
Now the question is: what is your problem? I could sit here and tell you how to be happy until I was blue in the face, but if you decide not to be happy there isn’t much I or anyone can do. Happiness is what you decide it is. You can’t find it in wanting and wanting. It is a decision and choice. If a person like this man can find happiness, what in heaven’s name is wrong with unhappy people?
Debbie
P.S. Life does have it minefields sometimes, but if this man can maneuver through the minefields of life I’m sure we can too. Here is a little extra help in MINDFULLNESS for those minefields in life. I am really hoping that is post will turn on the light, so that everyone can be grateful and enjoy the happiness in life that we all deserves.

Hello Debbie,
This is a great post, and a much needed wake up call for many of us who are getting wrapped up in our toubles and stresses, and forget to pause and count our blessings. Thank you!
Jen
Hi Jen,
That is what I was hoping for is that wake up call. Everyone has something going on in the life, but that is life. What is important is how we deal or handle all those little landmines that get it our way.
Thanks Jen and You have a very happy day and evening,
Debbie

The story of the man in the video is truly amazing! What an example in overcoming obstacles! It’s true that we can, or should, remember to compare ourselves to someone worse off or better off then we are. It can be, often is, a major motivational force. Yet, by choosing the comparison route I feel some people try to validate their current condition by sometimes using irrelevant comparisons – i.e. happiness and money, etc. – and by feeling happy only in contrast to others. Coming full circle, the man in the video seems to say that happiness does not dependent on circumstance – Circum’s Dance :-] – but is a personal decision, an inside job.
.-= Beat Schindler´s last blog ..What A Babyful World =-.
Hi Beat,
You hit the nail on the head when you said, “an inside job.” That is exactly what happiness is. Blame plays a big part in happiness. This man did not blame his situation. He made a decision that he could be happy regardless of the obstacles he had to over come. He should be an inspiration to all of us.
I don’t know about you , but no amount of money would be worth my arms or legs even if I was sleeping under a bridge.
May happiness always be yours and thanks for your input.
Debbie
Amazing! Great use of alliteration too: bitter or better, limbs or limitless!
Liked the points, well made. Thanks.

Hello Bruce,
Thank you Bruce. I have to admit that sometimes I get very frustrated with people when it comes to happiness and I was just trying to make people see how very fortune one can be.
One time in my life I had one quarter in my pocket, but three beautiful daughters and I was the riches person in the world.
Life was made for happiness all we have to do is let it find us sometimes.
Have a wonderful happy day and thanks for your comment,
Debbie
Debbie, what an inspiring video.
I think happiness is usually just a matter of focus. I choose to focus on what’s great in my life and the world; I only deal with negative stuff when it’s necessary.
I strongly recommend the book Happier by Tal Ben-Shahar.

Hi John,
Yes, it is a matter of what we focus on. Actual I have found when it comes to the negative stuff, just slap a little humor along side of it and the happiness comes out.
I will have to check out the book Happier. Do you have a link to it or do I go Goggling?
Thanks John for your comment and have a very happy wonderful day,
Debbie
Just type the title into Amazon. You might also need his name. Well worth the read.

Gosh, we all have so many blessings to feel thankful for. Thank you for your inspiring article. You know I sprained my ankle a few months ago and was on crutches for two months. Gosh, that was a pain in the you-know-what.
Yet, that experience taught me a powerful lesson. It taught me to appreciate that my body heals itself… how it gets me around in the world. It helped me appreciate my hands and my feet… things that I’ll admit I had once taken for granted.
Everything has a silver lining. Our perspective of our experience plays a big role in how we feel about it. Today, I’m going to go for a bike ride and instead of complain about how it hurts I’m going to thank God that my legs work.

Hi Susan,
Congratulation on your new site. Sorry you broke your ankle. My Hubby did that 2 days before we were moving into our new house. Boy, was that fun. Glad you are doing better and found the positive side of it. That is what is really important and makes for happiness. Knowing how to deal with situations as they come our way.
The last few years of my fathers life I watched as he was having trouble getting around. After that I’m always thankful when I can go get something for someone or my self. Just walking across the room was wonderful and gave me pleasure.
Have a very happy evening and so happy that your ankle is healing well.
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
I can’t thank you enough for posting a truly amazingly motivational article and video. I have so much to br thankful for: but I admit forget. Now I will never ever forget. Today I am off to fly off to see a loved one and I feel so inspired.Thank you so much.

Hi Lance,
Thanks you for the good words. Glad that I did get my point across. I think we all forget from time to time how wonderful life can be and how fortune we are.
Have a wonderful happy time with your loved ones.
Debbie
Wow. How inspirational was that? I am humbled
.-= Hear Mum Roar´s last blog ..!!! =-.
Thank you very much. When we are humble that is when we do find our happiness. I am so glad that you liked the article.
Thanks again and have a very happy weekend and may all your days be filled with happiness.
Debbie
Thanks, Debbie — Great video. I have so much to be thankful for, and I try each day to remember that, and to be grateful and count my blessings. I loved the part of the video where you can choose to be “better” not “bitter.” I choose better — thanks for helping me remember that!
Hi Lisa,
You are welcome. So many times we do want to choose bitter instead of better. When we do that it does suck the happiness right out of a person.
You are right when you talk about having so much to be thankful for. We all do and when we focus on that we are much happier.
My hubby just got through working 11 days straight, from 7a.m. to 6p.m., he says I don’t like doing this and I told him that there are a lot of people that wished they just had a job to go too. He smiles and says, “Your right off to work I go.”
Thanks Lisa and have a very happy weekend and all the days to follow.
Debbie
Thank you, Debbie…
I had tears in my eyes during the video… it really put some physical pain I’ve been having recently into better perspective.
I’m glad you’re here doing what you are doing.
keep smiling,
Benjamin
Thanks Ben, It sure does make a person stop and think. When I found that video my thought was, “What the heck to I have to complain about, not a thing.”
Glad I could be of service.
Thanks again Ben and you have a wonderful weekend and I hope what ever pain you are having gets better.
May happiness always be yours,
Debbie

You are very welcome and have a wonderful happy day!
Debbie
Thank you so much for sharing that video. I am absolutely inspired. But beyond that, I am encourage by a message I know in my heart to be true. Try. Again and again. Keep trying. Strengthen my convictions. Find a way to push through. And it’s the FINISH that matters. How we get there will be forgotten. All the failed attempts will be forgotten.
I am happy. I love my life.
Yes.
Hi Sarah,
You are very welcome and it is so true that we always have to try. The only way we fail is when we don’t try. You and your sisters remind me of my daughters. There are 3 of them. And I’m loving those grand kids they have given me.
So glad to hear you are happy and loving life.
May you always be blessed with happiness,
Debbie
Debbie. Attitude and gratitude is everything. I’m a firm believer in blooming where you are planted….otherwise the grass is always greener.

Thanks Michelle. I like that “blooming where you are planted.” When we think that the grass is greener once we get to the other side of the fence we find that it isn’t as green as we thought.
Michelle you have a wonderful happy day and I hope many people vote for you. Just click on Michelle’s link and vote. Thanks

“We are put in situations to build our character.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Yes, we are. Sometimes we put ourselves in not so good situations and we have to learn. It most definitely builds character.
Thanks for your input, badmommy moments. They are appreciated.
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Thanks for this wonderful share. I have always been inspired to this guy’s story because he lets me know how happy life should be lived despite all challenges. Also, he’s given me more inspiration to live longer the more I know I get so blessed by having these complete limbs in place to make use of my talents.
And yes, I’m still touched even if I’ve watched him couple of times already. Such a wonderful man.
Thanks,
Tyrone
Hi Tyrone,
I am glad you enjoyed it even though you have seen it before. This man is quite the inspiration to all of us. Sometimes i see people get angry with there children and think, “Why don’t they see how blessed they are that there child is healthy.”
You have a wonderful day and may happiness always be there for you.

You are so right Raymond. I know for myself, when things were really rough that is when I realized what true happiness was. People forget to just look in front of themselves and be grateful for what is right there.

Hi! I know this is somewhat off-topic however I had to ask. Does running a well-established website like yours take a lot of work? I am completely new to writing a blog however I do write in my diary everyday. I’d like to start a blog so I will be able to share my own experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for new aspiring blog owners. Thankyou!
Monique recently posted..Dynamics Of Personal Goal Setting
No worries Monique. Once you learn how to do it, it is not a lot of work. And the work you do is fun, so I really don’t call that work. I am not the most technical person in the world, so i do have someone that helps me with that. He has a website which is http://www.incomebloggingguide.com/. His name is Andrew Rondeau. Great guy and has taught me a lot when it comes to blogging. He is good at teaching for A to Z when it comes to blogging.
Thank you for asking and I’ll send you an email also.
