Is Happiness Already At Your Back Door?

There is a great quote from Eddie Rickenbacker, a fighter pilot in WWII who had to ditch his plane in the ocean.  Eddie and his crew floated on a raft for 3 weeks in the ocean without food or fresh water.

When Eddie was finally rescued he said, “For the rest of my life, if I have a roof over my head and food, I will never complain about anything.”

I n my last posting I received emails from people who apparently are unhappy and they are obviously trying to choose happiness, but keep struggling.   In some of these emails they were having health problems, financial reasons and relationship problems.

Let’s go back to Eddie Rickenbacker for a minute.  Now he probably had a house, wife, 1.2 kids and money in the bank and there he sit in middle of the ocean.  At that very moment all he wanted in his life was food, water and a roof over his head, would have really been nice.  When we say whatever makes you happy, will that was all he needed to be happy.

Now all the people that I heard from wanted to choose happiness, however they were finding other things in their way, such as health, finances and relationships, etc. in reality they actually already have happiness, but just can’t see it because they are looking in all the wrong places.

They had a computer or they obviously wouldn’t be emailing me. And if they had a computer you know that they have a roof over their heads.   Without a roof, where are you going to find at plug -in for the computer? I’m just about sure they had food and water or they wouldn’t be buying a computer.

If you look at this story again what happened to Eddie, so he could really find and realize what happiness is?  He in a sense lost everything and just wanted and needed the basics to stay alive, food and water.  So to find happiness do we need to lose everything and then we realize what we do have is the happiness within that we have been looking for.

See I kind of know exactly what Eddie means, because in some ways I’ve been there.  I was never in the middle of the ocean, thank heaven, but I was in a situation where I didn’t know if I was going to have a roof over my head or food on my table.  Bill collectors calling me, working and my bank account being garnished, because of bills my ex didn’t pay, (and that happened 2 weeks before Christmas).  And three small children to worry about!!!

Sometimes the going can get pretty rough, there is no getting around it, but you cannot let the world steal your happiness from you.  One of the biggest secrets to happiness is to count your blessings and deal with the crap that comes your way when you need to, but choose happiness at all times because things will get better.

If you are in real need of something that is going to help the pain go to Make a Difference and   get yourself a copy of the Lord’s Prayer and read it every day and listen to the words.  This is a great source of help to me even on the good days.

May you all be blessed with happiness and please leave your comments and let me know How I can be of service in your quest for happiness within.  Remember there is no help if you don’t let someone know how they can help!
