Choose Happiness, NOT Control

What happens when we want all the control?  It’s probably going to drive you crazy!  controlSmall 300x225 Choose Happiness, NOT Control

I was thinking about my life the other day and one important thing that I have learned to do is release control when I can’t control  something that isn’t even in my control.

The need to control can be used in the right way when we want to build something or have a dream that we want to achieve.  On the other hand control is going to cause us unhappiness if it is a situation that is out of our control, but we just can’t seem to let it go.

When I was a single parent and barely had a roof over our heads it was likeI was losing control and the more I tried to control the situation the worse it seemed to get.  Once I started to enjoy what I did have and release the control of what I didn’t have I was happy…It freed my mind to think through the situation and find a solution for some of my problems.

I am going to be bold here, but I  don’t want you to think I am some kind of a religious nut.   To be honest I let go of control and ask God to see me through those tough times.  I concentrated on the good things in my life and let go of the things that I couldn’t control.

A false sense of control can help in promoting a sense of well being and allowing one to maintain hope in a bad situation.  Surviving can mean possessing a special toughness of the body and the mind.  For happiness one needs to face the world without illusions of control, but dealing with life as it comes, day at a time without all the expectations of control.

There are times when one of the children will ask if we can take care of the small grandchildren on a weekend.  At first the thought crosses my mind on how much I need to get done on the weekend.  Then I stop and think:  “The stuff that needs done will always be there, but those small grandchildren are only little for a short time and won’t always be there.  I am controlling my weekend to a degree.

We all know that when small children are around that sometimes you just have to go with the flow.  In the long run I find that I would much rather give up control of what I need to get done, then loss the precious time with the little ones.

With the economy in the mess it is , do you want to sit and worry about it?  Wouldn’t it be better to enjoy what is in your day for the moment, because tomorrow may not be anyway.  Hey, you may get run over by a big truck (God forbid), but things do happen.

I love the song; “Live Like You Were Dying.” in this song he is giving up control and taking life one day at a time.  Being thankful for each day and finding real happiness.

Control your happiness by giving up control of things you can’t control.  As i always say, “Let go and let God.”  If by chance you don’t know God, find him.  I find life a whole lot easier.

To me God is like your parents were when you were a little kid.  There to protect you when needed.  There to take control for you in any given situation.  There to help fix any problems that you may or may not have created.

We do not have to be in control at all times. Let go of control and you are going to rid yourself of worry and stress.  You will find your happiness and live a longer and healthier life.
